What kinds of activities do you enjoy when you’re outside the gym? Hanging out with my family and friends.
Favorite CrossFit Movement/WOD: Hmmm….. I like foam rolling!! I don’t like doing the Filthy Fifty but I do like when it’s over and it feels good to have done the work. I also enjoyed the one time we did bench press.
Least Favorite Movement/WOD: Muscle-Ups. I can’t do them and it makes me cranky. Overhead squats are also rather un-enjoyable.
Goals: Muscle-Ups, getting better at OHS and HSPUs.
Best CrossFit Accomplishment (So far): Sticking with it. Crossfit has had a huge positive impact on my keeping my back healthy. It’s also given me new perspective.
What was your first experience like at CrossFit 585? Awful. I thought I was in decent shape but apparently I was not. I was doing the WOD with my friend Pat (where has he been?) and we were exhausted. I remember looking over at Coach Adam at one point and he was asking Coach Eric if he thought they should cut us off and stop the workout because it was taking us so long. We ended up finishing the WOD but my ego has not recovered. I also remember the coach suggesting I use a band to do my pull-ups. I though to myself, “I don’t need a band!!!”. I did 3 pull-ups and wasn’t able to do anywhere close to the 50 the workout called for.
What do you love most about being a part of our community?: The coaches. Eric, Adam, Jason, Jess and Gina are AMAZING! We’re very fortunate to have such an experienced, knowledgeable and passionate team. They truly care about making everyone at the gym better across a variety of dimensions.
Rick and his 6 AM crew.
You also participate in BJJ, tell us about your favorite Jiu Jitsu Technique? Tapping Out. I do it early and often. I like it because it makes the pain stop. I also enjoy shrimping.
Why do you come to 585 Jiu Jitsu? The coaching. Eric and Jason are top notch and the group that trains with them are great folks. Everyone is very dedicated and always looking to help advance each other’s skills and techniques.
What makes 585 unique? Training environment? Coaching? 585 is run by a great group. They work hard and care about every single client. They make sure everyone gets what the need and sometimes what they want. They are patient and motivating. I’m also struck by the collective intellect. There are more PhD’s in the gym than GEDs.
